Two screens can show different totals because they answer different questions.

1. Identify each measure

Read the heading: sales, cash received, outstanding, overdue, income, and profit are different measures.

Profit and Loss reports income and costs for a period rather than simply adding unpaid invoices.

2. Align the filters

Compare the selected business, date range or as-of date, currency, status, and Amounts In settings on both views.

3. Check the dates behind a record

An invoice can be issued in one month and paid in another. A document report and a cash report can therefore place activity in different periods.

4. Trace a sample difference

Pick a source document and follow its invoice, payment, and ledger entries. If the same scope and measure still disagree, share those references with support.
