Check whether the correction concerns a mistaken receipt, a genuine payment, or only the document wording.

1. Open the invoice

Go to Invoicing → Invoices and open the intended document. Confirm its customer and current status.

Find the correct document in the selected business.

2. Review the payment

Open Manage Payments → History. Compare the amount and date with the receipt that actually occurred.

3. Correct a mistaken record

If no money arrived and the payment was recorded by mistake, use the supported reversal in History. Then check which invoice fields become editable. Do not reverse a genuine receipt to unlock the invoice.

4. Correct a changed sale

For a real cancelled order or price reduction, use the invoice’s Refund or Create Credit Note flow. Review the amount, tax, and any money being returned.

Create Credit Note and Refund are distinct from editing an invoice’s settled amount.

5. Save allowed wording changes

A paid invoice can still allow notes, terms, descriptions, or custom fields. Save permitted changes and preview them. Customer and currency lock when a payment is recorded; a fully paid invoice also locks its money details.
