Separate a planned deposit from money already received.

1. Prepare the invoice

Create and save the invoice for the agreed job. Check the customer, total, due date and offered payment methods.

2. Request the deposit

Open Manage Payments → Payment Options and choose Ask for a Deposit First. In the invoice editor, you can also use Request Deposit below the totals.

Payment Options offers Ask for a Deposit First above the payment choices.

3. Review the amount and balance

Choose Percentage or Fixed Amount. Enter the deposit and review the remaining balance and due date. Read any restriction, then choose Request Deposit. Requesting a deposit records no money received.

4. Add later installments if agreed

If the remaining balance has fixed stages, open Manage Payments → Payment Options → Split Payment → Configure Split Payments. Set the remaining due dates and amounts, check Unallocated is zero, and choose Save Split Payments. The deposit stays first.

5. Preview and verify actual receipts

Preview the customer’s deposit and balance before sharing. After a payment, check Manage Payments → History. Record an outside payment only once, with its actual date, amount and receiving account. Money received before any invoice uses the customer advance flow instead.
