Choose an account that describes the transaction you are recording.

1. Open the chart

Go to Accounting → Chart of Accounts. Use the account-type tabs to narrow the list.

The chart groups accounts by type and shows the account name and number.

2. Check the type and group

Find the account name and number. Check its group before choosing it in an expense, bill, receipt, or journal. A group heading organizes accounts; it may not be a posting account.

3. Compare the form’s choices

Return to the transaction and select the appropriate offered account. Bank reconciliation uses eligible cash, bank, and payment accounts in the business’s accounting currency.

4. Review the result

Save only when the account matches the actual transaction. If the classification is uncertain, confirm it with your accountant first.
